Classic Orange Marmalade

Gather

Ingredients

  • 4 cups thinly sliced orange peel with white membrane (about 2.5 to 3 lb oranges)
  • 4 cups chopped orange pulp
  • 1 cup thinly sliced lemon
  • 6 cups water
  • 6 cups sugar

Preserve

Instructions

  1. 01

    Pre-sterilize half-pint jars and keep them hot. Wash fruit and retain some white membrane with the peel.

    Combine orange peel, orange pulp, lemon, and water. Boil until the peel is tender, about 1 hour.

  3. 03

    Add sugar and boil rapidly, stirring frequently, to the jellying point, about 45 minutes.

  4. 04

    Remove from heat, skim foam, and fill hot sterile jars, leaving ¼-inch headspace. Wipe rims and apply lids.

  5. 05

    In a boiling-water canner, process for 5 minutes (base time).
