Nutmeg Apple Preserves

Gather

Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled, cored, sliced apples
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp bottled lemon juice
  • 1 package powdered pectin
  • ½ lemon, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 2 tsp ground nutmeg

Preserve

Instructions

    Pre-sterilize the jars, then cover the pan and simmer the apples with the water and lemon juice for 10 minutes.

    Mix in the pectin and heat the mixture to a rolling boil. Add the optional lemon and sugar; bring it back to a rolling boil and boil hard for 1 minute.

  3. 03

    Remove from heat, stir in nutmeg, and fill jars with ¼-inch headspace.

  4. 04

    In a boiling-water canner, process hot half-pint or pint jars for 5 minutes (base time).
